Project Components
This component includes documentation of major taxa in the landscapes that include mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, Lepidoptera, odonates, trees and agro-biodiversity to assess the biodiversity value of the landscape. The component also includes assessment of ecosystem services and how these are valued by communities in the context of major changes in the landscape.
This includes activities that will identify various local community based organisations and strengthen their role in biodiversity documentation and conservation. This component will particularly enhance the stewardship role of these institutions through different kinds of trainings, engagements, exposure and learning. Students pursuing higher studies will benefit through support for their dissertation work as well as through internships. This component will also help to strengthen the capacity of existing Biodiversity Management Committees and support them in formation of People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) in coordination with the respective Biodiversity Boards.
This includes building of a web-based system for aggregating biodiversity and related data on a technology platform integrated with other citizen science projects. This Information System will be used to publish all the biodiversity data generated during this project and also host and aggregate data from other projects, researchers and citizen scientists. All information on this portal will be made available under open access licenses.
This component includes engagement with various stakeholders at the local and district levels for preparing policy and management input documents for socio-ecological landscapes like the agroecosystems. This will be submitted to the government for proposing effective management and conservation of these high biodiversity areas.
